SEASIDE APARTMENT

HOW TO INCORPORATE THE SPACE
INTO ITS NATURAL ENVIRONMENT

Mis en Demeure was tasked with renovating a beachfront apartment. Despite being spacious and bright, the apartment lacked a distinct identity. Our challenge was to create an atmosphere and give this space the character it was missing.

Harmonize the colors

The main room, a large space generously lit by expansive windows, offers a breathtaking view of the sea, the beach, and the sky. This exceptional panorama evokes the sensation of floating on the waves and effortlessly transports us aboard a luxury cruise ship. From this feeling, we drew inspiration to give the space the comfort and elegance of a first-class deck on a grand liner.

To align the interior decor of this large volume with its immediate outdoor environment, we chose colors that echo those of the water, sand, sun, and sky. Thus, the custom blue tone of the walls blends with the ocean and sky, while the light hues of the seating resemble the fine sand. The brass and wood of the furniture and decorative objects recall the color of seaside pine forests and warm the apartment with their honeyed tones.

Three Spaces in One Volume

We used the volume of this space to install two large columns in its center. To replicate the repeating dimensions of large ocean liners, we echoed these columns at the four corners of the room.

Side of the bar

Near the bay windows, we chose to install the bar area so that the view of the ocean is unobstructed from the counter.

We adorned the walls with mirrors in the shape of portholes. The Normandie bar chairs, made of solid beech, are placed in front of the bay window to offer a stunning view of the horizon.

In the evening, the Milan brass pendant lights warmly illuminate the area above the counter, and the subtle lighting from the Ronda lamp, placed behind the bar, further enhances the cozy atmosphere.

Living room side

On the living room side, we selected the Victor sofas and armchairs, which are deep and comfortable, and their color was subtly chosen to echo the fine sand of the long beach across from it.

The large Victor sofa, the Victor armchair, and the small Victor sofa have been arranged to leave a large central space. In this space, we placed the Trouville side tables, a large and a small Igor pedestal table, and Trouville nesting tables.

We chose these collections for their circular shapes and refined finishes, which elegantly complement the comfort of the space. At the back, the captain’s armchair commands attention, and a ship’s fireplace has been installed behind the large Victor sofa.

Dining room side

Along the second bay window, at the edge of a large terrace, we have set up the dining room. Here too, the space offers a panoramic view of the beach and the sea. We aimed to create a sense of extension between the space and its direct outdoor environment while fully enjoying its sunlight.

We placed a long table facing the bay window. Around its thick wooden top, we installed Normandie chairs, chosen for their comfortable seating, essential for hosting and enjoying every meal. Beyond comfort, the honey color of their wooden frame and the sand hue of their seats harmonize with the brown-yellow tones of the table.

Focus on the library

In the corner, we took advantage of the two walls to structure the space and create niches of different sizes and configurations.

We installed a library and placed decorative objects related to the sea theme. For example, the multicolored Opéra cup-and-ball game harmoniously coexists with the lanterns and seashells placed here and there in the niches. We also cleverly used one of the niches to discreetly hide the air conditioning. Thus, the comfort of the room is optimized without compromising the refined aesthetic of the space.

On the walls, we installed Fougères wall sconces. Their sculpted finishes fit perfectly into this elegant and warm space.

Comfortable bedrooms

All three bedrooms offer a sea view. Here too, the wall colors were custom-created to ensure the rooms perfectly blend with their external environment.

To make them welcoming and relaxing, we used soft and comfortable materials, and furniture with a clean and elegant design. For example, the Ecouen bench and the Chelsea upholstered chair decorate one room, while the Charles and Du Bac armchairs face each other in another. In the third room, we installed a Long Island sofa in sand color and a Victor armchair. Behind each bed, the color of the Igor headboard varies to match the wall shade. We also included Languedoc upholstered end tables with drawers and Lauris side tables. Their understated and elegant style enhances the serene atmosphere and invites relaxation.

We made the most of the property's outdoor environment to give this apartment its own identity and create a unique atmosphere. The choice of comfortable materials, harmonious colors, and elegant decor now make it a pleasant living space year-round. However, by the seaside, it is during the beautiful season that it offers an ideal place to stay.
